Travel Info Whats it like living in Kansas City, MO? Travel Tips When I moved here almost ten years ago, I thought I hit the big time. There was less traffic, petrol was cheaper, insurance was cheaper, groceries were cheaper, and there were lots of jobs for the taking. Ten years later, even though I finally have my own house, I think I have made the wrong decision in moving here. My job sucks, the pay sucks, the city is turning into a free-for-all as far as crime is going. I should have gone somewhere else, but I had family here that were willing to put me up without cost, so I jumped at the chance. If you are thinking of moving here, I wish you the best of luck. It ain't great, but it ain't TOO bad. Others Depends on where you're moving from. While it's a big Midwestern city, it doesn't have the round-the-clock amenities of New York or Chicago. But it's a great city with its own unique personality. People are quite friendly there and the local cuisine is great. There are a couple of BBQ places (won't name names, but every local knows the competitors) that are AMAZING. KC has a good jazz scene and Westport is a fun place to bar hop if you're young. The Plaza has good shopping. If you have specific questions, feel free to e-mail me. I lived there for several years during grad school. You can get from one end of the city to the other in about 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. The suburbs are growing in each direction of the city, and in Kansas also. There are great schools, fine restaurants and Kansas City is in the top twenty cities in the United States to live. If you want to see what's going on, this website is very good. It's : www.kansascity.com It will give you the upcoming events, and things going on in the city. i lived there for most of my life and plan on moving back when i can get the money. Its a great place to live. Stay out of KCK and the area of 39th st. and troost st. in MO. Those places are in the news every night. hmmm...lets see. High crime rate. High unemployment. Mayor Kay Barnes is in her last term.She was very good at getting redevelopment projects going. The next mayor will probably squander her efforts. Terrible schools with a school board that is only interested in bickering with each other. Resistant to transportation changes that would help make K.C. great again.ie light rail. An embarrassing police force.You may be familiar with the incident with a pregnant black woman who was stopped by police. She said she was bleeding and needed medical attention.They denied her that request ,opting to take her to jail instead where she then mis-carried.A full year later the male and female officers were unburdened of there duties. Dirty streets and sidewalks. I could go on..... its Great but if youre looking for vacation this in not the place. |
