Where are some good places to live in Wyandotte County (Kansas City area)? |
Travel Info I know about Olathe, Overland Park, Shawnee, etc. I'm interested in good places in Wyandotte County which would put me closer to work. Travel Tips There are none! Wyandotte has 20% higher property tax (to pay for the welfare and racetrack) and 100% higher crime rate. Why would anyone purposely live there? To the person who said move west of 78th St: That's EXACTLY what they said 15 years ago, only back then it was 48th. KCK police are corrupt and inept, and the crime is way to high to justify why they have 200 more officers than Wichita which has a MUCH higher population. Stick to north Johnson Co. (ie, Mission). You'll be close to work, pay less taxes, have much less crime, and cost of living (apart from taxes) will be the same. JUST SAY NO TO POLACK POLITICS IN WYCO Others The places you listed are in Johnson County. Where do you work? I live in Wyandotte County, in Kansas City, Kansas. Some of the best areas are west of 78th St in KCK. I live right by the Legends on 103rd Street and these neighborhoods are GREAT. My kids go to an excellent school and my neighbors are all friendly and look out for each other. I have lived all over Kansas City including Johnson County and Kansas City Missouri but this area has been best for my kids by far. And it's great for me too because anywhere I need to shop is right close by. Been in Wyandotte County for 2 years now. My husband grew up in WYCO. He has lived in all parts of it and suggests living in the west part of the county. He said if we were to move back there we would more than likely live in Bonner Springs as it is a little bit nicer and cleaner. He used to live in Strawberry Hill just off of downtown. The houses are extremely close together, older, and falling apart. I think his old house is still for rent in the 500 blk of Sandusky :) Good luck. I've lived in the Edwardsville/Bonner Springs area. These are good neighborhoods with good schools but a bit run down. Still, you'd be close to work and shopping. Lawrence to downtown KC would be too far for most Kansas commuters. If you are moving from NYC, Chicago, or Los Angeles, it would be nothing to you. Leavenworth is actually a pretty nice area to live in--I know several peopel who live there and love it. Kansas City, KS "north of the river" is typically a lower-income, higher-crime area. You might also consider KCMO, especially up by the airport (KCI). I drive by it a lot--great shopping areas, nice properties to live in--don't count it out. |
