Why in the world would Kansas City build an arena without having an anchor tenant? |
Travel Info What were they (the city leaders) thinking? What sports team in its right mind would move to a 2nd to 3rd rate city? How could the citizens be boondoggled SOOOOOOOOO badly? Travel Tips There's a few reasons the Sprint Center was built. First, it's a community asset. Kansas City being the convention capital of the world needs a building like that. The Muni and the Kemper are getting on in years and don't have the amenities to draw travelling shows and stuff. Second, KC is building the Sprint Center in an attempt to lure a big-league team over there. The Pitt Penguins were six inches away from moving to the Sprint - until they got an arena deal done in Pittsburgh. The Seattle Supersonics are not happy in Seattle, and they might be Sprint Center tenants. The Nashville Predators NHL team isn't happy in Nashville either - and there's talk KC might be their next location. The Big 12 basketball tournament needed a newer and better home as well. 2008 - the 12 is back in KC! Others Gov't contracts are about stealin g $$ from tax payers. In order to receive a bid to host say a bowl game - final 4 -etc We like to build things to make our city go. |
