What's the music scene like Kansas City? |
Travel Info I'm thinking of moving to Kansas City from a much larger city and am wondering whether I'm going to be able see good music. Do a lot of bands come through on tour? I'm primarily an indie rock fan, interested in acts that would play in smaller venues. Are their a number of local acts? What kind of music is popular? Travel Tips Believe it or not but Kansas City gets quite a few bands that come though. If you go to Ticketmaster.com and put in the area code 66104 then you can click on the type of music you like and kinda get an idea of who comes. I have been to many shows myself(Big and Small). Downtown Kansas City and Lawrence have the best venues. There are tons of local rock bands of all kinds. I think you would enjoy it. Others Like Memphis, Kansas City is known for the blues, but there is rock action there too. My hubby used to live near there, and still keeps in touch with a really good friend who plays in a blues band. He plays 3 to 4 nights a week and makes pretty good money just doing that. According to him, there is a lot going on musically, but he is primarily a blues fan. A lot of bands do come through KC on tour. There are a lot of small venues in Westport and elsewhere that host a number of local and national bands. Sometimes they'll play in Lawrence, KS though instead of KC, but its only about an hours drive away. kansas city is famous for Jazz! And there are a lot of bands that stop in KC. there are a couple local acts too. Our blues scene isn't nearly as big as it once was, but it's still very good. Indie bands? Well, we've got many colleges here so that has a good attraction. We won't draw the same number of top-notch indie bands as say Chicago or LA, but they are much bigger cities. Still, you should find enough entertainment to keep you happy. Lots of smaller clubs are peppered all around the area. there is lots of jazzy places to see. lots of coffee shops have life bands playing jazz. i like it. don't really know that much about rock, but jazz is good. Take this Advice from someone who lives in THE KC Well the kc is the home of Jazz but Wat you hear all the time is Hip Hop, R&B, Rap and Jazz. May 3rd Paula DeAnda is coming ONLY for those who win tickets can go but Hip Hop is manly Da Music |
