Travel Tips
When you say next weekend are you talking 6/29-7/1?

I ran a quick search on http://www.utopia.worldventures.com... (my favorite booking site) and came up with 319 results. Some of them are very nice hotels for under $300 for the entire weekend. Radisson,Hilton,Marriott, Sheraton, and more were under $300

I also found the Hyatt Regency (4 Star and downtown) for $229.68 (double beds) See map here where the hotel is located.

$300 a night or total? If it is total, you will not be staying downtown.
Hi:
I am not sure if you can make it with 300$. But surely you can get a decent to a very good hotel for 4days for around 400$. Usally downtown hotels like Westin and Hyatt go for an average 150$ a night and this rate is even more during weekends. Add downtown parking (if you have a car) and using room phone you are seeing a good 150$ a night.

Here is a list of things you could do.
1. Check travelocity.com or Hotel.com for rates in downtown hotels. When I checked the rates from June 22 to June 26(didnt know when you were staying in KC) the rate was around 150$ before taxes.
2. If you are a little flexible and have a car, country club plaza is within 10mins of downtown and the rates would come down a good 50$ a day as parking is free and the area is great and safe and lot of shopping. When you are doing the rates check in travelocity.com or orbitz.com or hotel.com, check for hotels in kansas city and find the hotels which says it is in country club plaza. Get the hotel address and you can see how far it is from where you have to go in downtown. I am positive you will see substantial savings.

3. Another option you have is get hotels from Priceline.com or Hotwire.com. You will get great hotels from these websites at great prices for the same star hotels as you would get from Travelocity or Orbitz. The only caveat being if you do priceline or hotwire.com , the reservations are final. Important. No Refunds even if you don't go to KC. Since the reservations are final, you could get say a hotel from these websites for a good 25$ 30$ less than the websites like Travelocity.

3. Hotwire.com shows you the rates for the hotels in different locales in the city . It will say something like
2.5-star hotel in Country Club Plaza 63 a nite (actual rate I saw). There is no gimmick here and the hotels are usually one of the top line hotels. You choose the hotel according to price and area suitable to you and you use your credit card to pay for it and the hotel name is revealed. Then you call the hotel to confirm your reservation.

4. Priceline.com works a little differently. You choose the area and dates you want to stay and you quote how much you want to pay and if the rate is accepted thats what You would pay for each day for 4 days. it will give you an option to choose area and also the star levels of hotels. Hotel rates from travelocity.com should be a give indicator of what the prevailing hotel rates are for different star levels. So if you see 100$ a nite in Travelocity.com, quoting 60 in priceline would be a good bet. If your price is accepted the hotel name is revealed and it will show you the total that has been charged to your card. THE RESERVATION IS FINAL (NO REFUNDS or CANCELLATION just like HOTWIRE).

Both hotwire and Priceline rates are before taxes.

In conclusion rates from travelocity , hotels or even the hotel website directly is more expensive but it is easy to cancel or make changes. Priceline or Hotwire is cheaper but non-refundable and provide great hotels for cheaper rates.(Not some cheap motel 6 or Days INN)

I hope this helps. If you have specific dates in mind, it would be easier to tell you what the rates would have been!

If you were talking about $300 in total, then the Econo LOdge is your best choice downtown:

If it is $300 a night, I think that the sky is the limit...
Whatever your choice is, call the hotel and ask for a cheaper rate. I've called hotels in the corporate woods area and got rates at half price. Better some income than an empty room. They still have to keep (and pay) staff, so unless there is someting going on you can probably get a good rate.
