Is getting Visas for Kenya and Tanzania at the border easy?

Travel Info
I am going to Kenya and Tanzania this summer and have heard that I can either send my passport to the embassies for processing beforehand OR I can get them upon arrival in Kenya & Tanzania. I want to know what other travelers have experienced and see what they would do if they went back.

Travel Tips
no, getting visas in africa is a pain in the *** and can often times take days, weeks even months. make sure you prearrange this. i was held up in zambia for three and a half weeks waiting for everything to process. Source(s): ok guy below me, anyone can google it and copy and paste what the internet says. i thought this was about your personal experience?
Other Travel Tips
Here's as much as I know about this. Personally I'd try to get them beforehand, but here's the scoop:

For travel to Kenya, a passport and visa are required. Visas should be obtained in advance, although airport visas are available. Travelers who opt to obtain an airport visa should expect delays upon arrival. There is a fee for the visa, whether obtained in advance or at the airport. Evidence of yellow fever immunization may be requested. Travelers may obtain the latest information on visas as well as any additional details regarding entry requirements from the Embassy of Kenya, 2249 R Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20008, telephone (202) 387-6101, or the Kenyan Consulates General in Los Angeles and New York City. Persons outside the United States should contact the nearest Kenyan embassy or consulate.

For Tanzania, a passport and visa are required for travel. U.S. citizens with valid passports may obtain a visa either before arriving in Tanzania or at any port of entry staffed by immigration officials. U.S. passports should be valid for a minimum of six months beyond the date the visa is obtained, whether it is acquired beforehand or at the port of entry. Also, foreigners are required to show their passports when entering or exiting Zanzibar. Visitors are required to have a valid yellow fever inoculation stamp on their international health cards.
