its quite developed. their is one area of nairobi which is not very developed and that's where the crime rates are quite high. also, around some of the matatu stages and river road, crime rates are hi (pick pocketing)... the only thing i would watch for is water, have bottled water, its available everywhere. you can find practically everything! be careful of hustling on the matatu.

Don't drink the tap water or have ice in your drinks. Make sure you have a right vacinations before you leave.
There is a famous restaurant in Nairobi where all sorts of game are barbecued and carved at your table. Check it out. It doesn't all taste like chicken!
Nairobi is very developed. I would be careful about drinking water or eating raw fruits & veggies, but over all the city is bustling with people in business suits, cars, buses, skyscrapers, restaurants, etc.

Antony- the restaurant is called Carnivore. You're right- it doesn't all taste like chicken. It's a great place.
It is like any other big city anywhere in the world. supermarkets, cars, public transport, etc... You may have to watch your back if you are walking around at night, but you should do that in any city anyways. I've been there three times and I never had any trouble, but I'm a guy and it would be different if you are female.

howdy, Nairobi is great, you can get everything and anything you need. Very modern including all that goes with that, traffic etc Reminds me of NY city
Its quite developed, maybe the 4th or 5th most advance city in africa. Crime rate is high, but i still like it.
