What is the most povertized city in kenya? |
Travel Info im planning on being a teacher in kenya, helping the less fortunate. Nairobi is a beautiful place, but im not feeling it. i want the worst of the worst. please help me out on this./ Travel Tips when you reach there you will know where is the city with less fortunate than you.. Others look at the small towns/villages. i worked in kenya as an hiv/aids teacher, and the small towns are the best. however, you do need to know swahili, especially if you are not aware of their local tounge. Good luck! Hi, I think you have quite a few choices to choose from. I would suggest small villages in rural parts of the Western, Nyanza or Coast Provinces. I am not sure what exactly you are looking for, who you want to teach and what, maybe identifying that will help you narrow down to a couple of places. As for Nairobi, there are pockets that are really poor such as the slum areas in Kibera, Majengo, Mathare, etc. The good thing with Nairobi is even illiterate people will speak or understand a bit of English. When you go to the rural areas, Swahili might still be a problem with the majority, except at the coast where majority of the people use it. One other thing, if you want to be outside of Nairobi, be prepared for a very humble existence and kiss stuff like flushing toilets and running water goodbye. Good luck with your plans, or as we say it back home, kila la heri (all the best!). Hmmm... interesting you "want the worst of the worst." It's all "povertized" (I'm not sure that's a word. ) As the other people in the post said, the most poverty stricken areas are usually the rural ones, but outside of the coast most of those people will know no English and a lot won't even speak Swahili. My suggestion is to find something around Kibera or maybe Mombasa and set modest goals. If you want to really change kids' lives then you will want to teach the ones who have the best chance of applying this knowledge towards gaining a better life. Sadly, it will probably be more meaningful if you don't just teach the "worst of the worst." Say you educate 50 street kids, it's unlikely that even a tenth of them will become self-sufficient and get off the streets. Whereas, if you educate 50 kids who already have access to some opportunities, then it's more likely your help will get them over the hurdle and really impact their day-to-day lives. Before you think big, start small. i would say kibera since it is one of the biggest slums in Africa if not try some place in kiambu or kissi or one of the rural areas they would really appreciate it Muchakos, |
