USD is almost the standard currency for most of the major services in Kenya. eg. Your tour operator will cost your safari in USD, your hotel/lodge will accept USD and infact most of their services are in USD for non residents (ie non kenyans not resident in Kenya). Each hotel has a forex bureau where you can change your currency anytime you wish except ofcourse there is minimum note/dollar value acceptable for conversion. eg most of them won't convert anything less than 20 usd. In Each town there are forex bureaus registered to do that and so i see no problem you carrying USDs. You only need Ksh. if you have to buy items by the road side eg art, crafts etc and/or if you are going to shop at most of the local malls but ofcourse they will accept your visa/master card . In any case most of the banks headquartered abroad has their corresponding banks registerd here. we have eg. Standard Chartered bank, Barclays Bank etc..so no need to worry. These are soo simple transactions. All you need is your credit card to be Visa, master and the local Atms will serve you. 2 cents contribution.
