What are some nice places to visit in Kolkata & sikkim ? It need not be famous , but it should be good. Extra marks if you happen to live there.

asen has given you information about Kolkatta. Here's something about sikkim-
1. Gangtok- Spend 2 days here to acclimatise.
2. Tsamgo Lake and Nathu La- take permits. They are in the same distance, but permits are required separately for both. On way to Nathu La, stop at Baba Mandir langar to have lunch.
3. North Sikkim- MUST VISIT.
A. Lachen- From here, you must go to Thangu, and Gurudongmar Lake, a beautiful lake at 17,800 ft. You will also see Kerang Cold Desert on the way. Permits are required.
b. Chopta Valley- near Thangu. is also called valley of flowers, you can see the Muguthang peaks from here.
c. If you are crazy enough, you can trek to Muguthang also from Chopta.
d. You can trek to Lachenchu.
B. Lachung- Visit Yumthang valley at 12000 ft, there is a hot spring and Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary.
b. Proceed from Yumthang to Yumesamdong, where there is another famous hot springs.
c. Go even further where the road ends at Dongya-La or Zero point . Fabulous place. Here you see the Teesta(lachung chu in its nascent stage).
d.Phodong Monastery across the Lachung chu.
For Noth Sikkim, you will require place-specific inner line permits. get that from Gangtok itself.
Singhik is on the way to North Sikkim, and you can see the Kanchenjanga Peak and Range from here. So stop and go to the view point.
4. Ravongla- Is a quiet and lovely place.
5. Pelling- I thought it overcrowded and disappointing.
6. Pemayangtse - Lovely monastary. view of Kanchenjanga can be had from here.
7. Khecheopari Lake and Kachenjanga Waterfalls are good place to visit.
8. Yuksom is an option if you want to see the green lake, or for treks to the montains.
9. Finally, visit Legship and Rangit Water world where they have constructed a dam on Rangit River. The lake is so serene! You can go boating.

To see all the above places you will need 10 days time, and lots of warm clothes. North Sikkim is COLD, but more beautiful than anywhere else.
Hire a jeep and tie up with any of the travel agents ( do some bargaining as well). Go there in September/ October/ mid-November, and March to mid- May.

But if u really wanna see what real Kolkata is then come oin between the end of september & the firs 2 weeks of October (Durga Puja) ( LOT & i mean LOT of rush )
