Time to reach from Kolkata Domestic Airport to Howrah Station & the best mode to reach there.? |
Travel Info I will be travelling to Kolkata in the mid-January and reach Kolkata at 7 PM.I have a train connection at 9:30 PM from Howrah. I will be grateful, if you can advise the following: (1) How much time it will take for me to reach Howrah Station from Airport? (2) How can I reach in shortest time , from the following option: (i) Taking a pre-paid taxi from Airport ( How is the traffic between 7 and 9:30 PM on the route?) (ii) Should I take a Metro train from Airport? ..How far is the Metro station from Domestic Airport? (ii) Is there a direct metro link between Airport and Howrah Station? Or should I take a mix and match of metro and taxi or auto to make it fast? If yes, then please suggest where to take metro and where to take taxi? (3) Please suggest any other better way to reach the Howrah Station in time. Travel Tips though i agree you are cutting it too fine, since the traffic is so unreliable like in most cities, but i suggest not to try breaking your journey between metro, launch and taxi, especially if you are completely unaware of it, and never done it before, it might work adversely for you, just take a taxi, tell hiom your flight time and get out of howrah, the cabbie will do his best, better still to avoid the cab queue and waiting book a pvt car that will wait for you the moment youa re out you can climb inand zip away ... Others You are cutting it very fine my friend. The fastest would be to take a taxi to Dumdum metro station, take a metro to Esplanade and another taxi to the Howrah station. This entire journey should take a total of an hour to an hour and a half, depending on your luck. Hope you are travelling light ....... Normally it should take about an hours ride.But in Cal you never can take things for granted.So you should plan for leaving airport definitely by 7.30pm. If possible have only hand baggage. Another problem in Cal is, around evening time the airport gets congested and you circle around city sky while biting your nails. As far as route is concerned I suggest the route via Science city(on EM bye-pass),since this route has less number of googlies which usually Cal traffic throws up. As of now direct train connectivity from Airport is not there.So best bet is taxi.Word of caution....there will be long Q for prepaid taxi.In such case engage a taxi from travel services though it costs a lil more.
