Travel Info My husband and I are going to Korea next March for TKD training. I have only been on 2 short flights and am kind of nervous! Also, we will be leaving our 2 yr old daughter behind. Any tips to help me relax and try to enjoy the experience? I am excited and scared at the same time!
Travel Tips
Long flights can actually be more enjoyable than short flights. They should show a lot of movies, and usually they are new movies. You can also listen to music, and international flights usually have more options. You will be served meals instead of only snacks, and you can always ask for something (like a pillow) so that you can sleep. I was too excited to sleep when I went to Japan, but if you can sleep, it is a good idea.
Once you get there, I think you will be more at ease. Make sure that you can e-mail your daughter or whoever is babysitting her. You can write letters and send postcards, too, but e-mail will allow you to communicate more freely and more often.
Good luck! Others I starting flying frequently when I was 7 so I can't really speak from experience, BUT try....
1. sleeping pills, make sure you take it after the plane takes off in case of delays
2. MP3 players, listen to soft, relaxing music like Bach's air, or Pachelbel's canon.
3.Constantly talk to your husband about shopping or anything he finds annoying, it might drive him nutz but might be entertaining for you. On long flights, I normally take DRAMAMINE庐 Original. This stuff is supposed to be used for motion sickness but knocks me out before the plane takes off. I use this stuff for long flights like Japan and the Philipines from the US. I'll be using it next month for Korea. When I was in the military I was stationed in Korea two times. This meant that I had to fly from the East Coast to South Korea by way of California and Japan. I believe the flight was close to 22 hours. I had no trouble sleeping on the plane during flight. I envy you. I had a wonderful time in South Korea and will go back hopefully someday to visit. While you are there take time out for shopping and remember it is customary to try and make a deal with the store owner by offering a lower price for what you want. Just don't come off as cheap. I flew out of Minneapolis, MN last week to Seoul Korea. It was a total of 14 hours! We had one layover in Tokyo. I sure hope you are not flying on Northwest Airlines. The service was horrible. We flew back on Korea Air (Hub in Chicago), and that flight was probably the best one I have been on.
They feed you breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with snacks. You also get a choice of an Asian dish or American. They even hand out hot towels for your hands before the meal, and have free wine and liquor! To cap it off, the stewards are very friendly, the blankets are washed and wrapped in plastic, and they even hand out a packet that has clean socks, toothpaste/brush, flashlight, and have all the newest movies that are out in theaters that you can watch. The remotes even pull out to play games with on the monitors in front of you.
Just remember to relax, and have fun!
