Teaching at an academy or public/privte school in Seoul area? |
Travel Info I am planning to move to Seoul in 2008-2009. I have lived in China since 2003. I currently teach ESL to high school students, but I also have three years experience teaching primary school. I will continue to teach high school students until I move to Korea. I have been with the same school system since I moved to China. I do not have a TESOL or TEFL certificate. What kind of teaching employment would I be most likely to gain in the Seoul area? Academy work or public/private school work? Travel Tips TEFL and TESOL are not important in Korea. What you HAVE to have is a university degree. You should easily get emploment and it will likely be in a school or academy. Many peopel also do private work, some cash in hand. Other Travel Tips both, TESOL or TOEFL certificates are pereferred but not required, you can teach anywhere here as long as you're fluent in english, f.y.i. it's kinda hard though if you're African-American in Seoul. Schools might be better than academies. To work as an English teacher in Korea, you should have a degree. Getting a job in the school system will be difficult without a TEFL or TESOL certificate. It is possible, but you will be on the low end of the income bracket for those jobs, and you will more than likely be able to get more money from and academy job with your experience. In the middle of applying for jobs and sorting through offers and this is what happened to me. |
