You are Amer-Asian not a half-breed. In the past mixed blood has been very stigmatized in Korean society for a variety of reasons. Koreans have always had a strong sense of race purity and even keep lengthy family registers to ensure that they are not getting married to a relative. Amer-Asians do have difficulties in Korea society, although less pronounced now as marriages to foreigners becomes more acceptable. Many of the mixed children were/are orphans that were abandoned as babies by mothers who conceived them in relationships with foreigners, were prostitutes or abandoned by a foreign husband. Hines Ward, star receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has done much to change attitudes in Korea. The son of a Korean mother and a black American he was born in Korea but grew up in America. Koreans respect and consider him as Korean (even though he is American) and during his first visit last year the red carpet was rolled out for him. His football jersey with his name and number is the most popular one in Korea and worn by young people to whom football is a round black and white ball that you kick. So no, Amer-Asians were not looked down on because of anything Americans did in the past but because of racial purity.

I think years ago they looked down on mixed race (Asian/White) persons in Korea, but I think now they are a lot more tolerant. I just came back from Korea a few days ago, and my 7 year old mixed race niece went with (she is a White/Korean mix). Everyone we met went crazy for her! Especially the JR high school age crowd. They all wanted to get their picture with her. The older/elder Koreans also approached her to talk also. Besides...I think mixed race people tend to be very attractive, they have an air of the exotic about them.
