Teaching in South Korea - Is Avail Teachers Consulting (ATC) a good recruiter? |
Travel Info I am being recruited by Avail Teachers Consulting to Teach ESL in South Korea. Are they a good recruiting firm and does anyone have any experience, god or bad with them? Please share? I am apprehensive about this undertaking but would love to do it. What has been your experience in South Korea as an ESL teacher? Travel Tips I got EVICTED from my apartment with no notice whatsoever because my boss quit paying my rent. She owes me over two million won and ran off to God only knows where. I wish I were kidding. Make sure you have money saved up so you can LEAVE if needed! Others I have been teaching here for 3 years. Let's just start by saying never pay a recruiter! They should be getting paid by the school not you. My friend paid her recruiter what amounted to a full months salary in the end when they should have been getting paid by the school. I love teaching here, and am in fact currently looking for a new job myself. SO here are some tips, you should be getting paid vacation time. half your healthcare paid for and taxes and pension paid out of your salary. It is in fact the law now that the schoo must pay for a minimum of half you health insurance as of last year in January. Around 1.9 to 2 million won is the minimum you should be making. They should be paying for your airfare, and you can usually get that paid in advance so you don't have to fork out the money then wait to be reimbursed later. You should also be getting furnished housing. I have had a fantastic time here in Korea, if you have any other questions feel free to email me farley_cathy@yahoo.ca Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Wildcat gave a good answer to you but I have to say that the minimum salary she told you, two million won, is far to little. You should never accept a job for less than two and a half million won. Any less is ridiculous, and also make sure you are paid for over time as that Koreans tend to believe being at the office twelve to fourteen hours a day is normal and acceptable and usually never complain about overtime. I have been living here in Seoul since 1999 and I am an American whose first job paid 2,200,000 won. |
