Where is a good and cheap place to visit near South Korea in July?

Travel Info
I have a 9 day vacation in July and want to go someplace interesting but relatively cheap for that time. I live in South Korea where I teach, and so am looking for somewhere near there.

Travel Tips
I live in Seoul and have been all around the country so I too have been looking for places outside of Korea. Quindao, China is good (I've been there twice). It's a seaport with beaches, sailing, good restaurants (reasonably priced) and some interesting nightlife. It was a sleepy little village before the Germans arrived about 1900 and established a manufacturing center there. It has a bit of Old Germany about parts of it. Interesting to see the architecture mix. The Germans also started the brewing of Tsindao Beer, China's best and most famous brew. The massages are really cheap and their average income is less that a 100,000 won a month. Flight time is about one hour on China Air out of Incheon. Guam is good but the lack of public transportation (expensive cabs and a few local shopping buses) makes it difficult to get around. But it is American and has great beaches. If you go to Guam go with a tour group. PI right now is too dangerous. I used to go there when it wasn't too bad - and even then I had to have a bodyguard. Japan - too expensive. Singapore - great place, lots of sights but too hot. Thailand - too dangerous now. Hope that this gives you some ideas. Enjoy yourself wherever you go. My next trip will be to Shanghai later this month for an art exhibition - my first time there.

Have you been to Jejudo? I've never been there, but I've heard its very nice and caters westerners.
i guess you can go to jeju island i heard its about 100 bucks to take the boat there. or travel somewhere in the country with some friends and enjoy koreas beautiful nature .. they have lots of parks and trails and waterfalls where u can swim in sangju..or go next door to japan .. thats fun ,, but i guess can be pricey,.or just shop and tour around su won and seoul .
Seoul, the capitol, is a really nice place!
Go hit Beijing, but stay in a very nice hotel. Don't try to scrimp on things because outside of the hotels and the major tourist attractions everything is pretty shitty. Definateley visit the major market areas like Silk Alley, and grab a coffee or two at the shops near the USA Embassy because kids walk in and plop down piles of DVD's for you to choose from and each one only cost about fifty cents. You can also buy a lot of knock-offs in the market area there and in Silk Alley.
If you go online to tourcabin.com you can find super cheap flights to South East Asia and China etc.
Japan is nice, but definately NOT cheap.
Shanghai is a great city, transportation is super cheap (taxi too), I stayed for four days there last year for my birthday in hotel which was only about 150,000won? I can't remember exactly sorry, but it would be easy enough for me to get the information for you.

However, if you want to get away from all the stress and pollution, you might want to think about Thailand. In 9 days you can definately see a lot of the country. Don't spend too much time in Bangkok, I think it can be more stressful than relaxing there, but definately head upto Chiang Mai (Mountains and rivers), they have treks in the mountains, night markets, it's close to Myanmar where you can get a day visa for $5.
Then you could head down to the islands for some suntanning time and super relaxation eating fruit salad soaking up the sun on beautiful beaches.
Also from Thailand you can get cheap trips to Cambodia where you could see Angkor Wat and some of the other temples which are among some of the oldest in the world.
I would recommend going there by ferry from Thailand to Sihanoukville then up to Siam Riep(Angkor Wat town).

I went to Thailand and Cambodia for a month, and took $1000. If I had more, I would have spent it, but that would definately be enough for you for 9 days, unless you want luxury accomodation... then you might need to pay a bit more.

It was enjoyable though, and fairly easy to get around if you don't speak Thai.
Just be careful that they don't rip you off.
