How long before I can be fluent in Korean? |
Travel Info I am planning on going to Korea to study for the Spring and Summer classes 2008 in English courses, and in the following fall i am planning on studying full time in Korean. About how long would i have to study, and how long will it take for me to be fluent in Korean?? Travel Tips It depends on some factors 1. If and and the people around you are submersing you in the language ad-infinitum 2. Your ability to adapt to the language readily. Some people have trouble learning certain languages because they have problems adapting to the function of pronunciation etc. 3. You have a very good teacher. 4. You have a will to achieve success in learning the language. I have learned some Korean in one year. About enough to communicate in simple conversation. However, I was not a good student and my environment was not supporting for learning a language. I am in China now and have been here for two years whereas, again my environment is not supporting to learn the language. I teach here so I can only spend about 2 hours per week to learn. I would say if you put the maximum effort into learning and you have a good environment to learn and you have a great teacher you should be able to master intermediate Korean in 1.5 years. good luck Others i d k. it depends. well my mom and dad is krn and my g-pa nd g-ma is krn and they all speak krn too me and if i didnt kno a word id just ask them wat do they mean and stuff. ooo and i also learned by Korean Dramas and Korean Game Shows since they kinda get addicting and lik ask a reall korean person wat it means if u dont kno wat it means or something. it just depends well it jus really depends on how fast you can catch on. b/c im trying to learn too, but then i do do good and school and stuff but i only know bits, and bits of phrases and words. and i have been trying to learn for only 5 or 6 months now. so it really just depends, there's no time limit, i think it depends on a lot of things. the two main questions are: a. how well do you catch on to other languages and b. to what extent are you willing to go to learn korean? the biggest thing is effort. you have to want to learn it and work at it. but being thrown in korea will be a good first step! this will definitely help you! watch tv programs, movies, etc. preferably with english subtitles so you actually learn the vocabulary study out of books, but don't rely on this method too much. no one speaks like that normally. find someone who is good at english and korean who is willing to help you. most koreans know at least some english and you can easily find someone who is near fluent! overall, it will take a good amount of time and effort. don't expect to learn it overnight; keep trying! good luck! 2-3 years I could use some delicious banana curry right now. Well, it really depends on how you define fluent. If you're a native English speaker, Korean is considered one of the hardest languages in the world to learn by the Department of State. (One of the 4 "superhard" languages out of more than 70 languages they teach.) They believe it'll take about 2200 class hours to reach general proficiency. That's 2200 class hours with less than 10 people per class who have been shown to be good with languages. http://www.nvtc.gov/lotw/months/november... |
