Has any one been to South Korea?

Travel Info
I'm interested to know how to exchange US currency for Korean. Do I need to visit a bank? Can I use my VISA or VISA check card and have them withdraw funds from my account and convert it? Are there any fees?

Help!

You can exchange money at the airport, banks, and most hotels. You can use your atm card to get cash from your bank when you get the money from the atm it is in Korean. Everyone accepts credit cards. The withdrawal fees are the same as here. The exchange rate changes and different places give different amounts, but it is almost the same.

Don't bother bringing currency. There are ATMs everywhere in S. Korea, at the airport arrival hall, convenience stores and outside banks. Even in the smaller cities it is easy to find ATMs that accept foreign cards. All Seoul subway stations have an ATM, bathroom, local and city maps and cheap transportation.

You may want to check your bank's policy on foreign ATM withdrawals. Wells Fargo charges $5 per foreign ATM withdrawal. Compass Bank charges nothing.

It is wise to enter any foriegn country with at least $100 in their currency. You can "buy" it at a bank that does that service in your area. Once you're abroad its safe to use your ATM/VISA/ etc card. If you're worried about using a card connected to your bank account. You can purchase a prepaid card and add whatever amount of funds you want to use. Check with the embassys though, some places overseas don't take foriegn cards (even if it does have the visa/ mastercard logo). Most common places to use your card though are main bank branches, post office, airport, places that are considered government buildings. And of course you'll be charged fees (evil huh?) but I've been told that travelers cheques suck in general so stay away from them unless you want to get one for emergency funds.
There are ATM's everywhere yes. But different from back in the States and Canada you can't use you ATM card in a store. Be careful about bringing only your cards though, carry some cash. Have had friends who visited run out of cash and discover that the machines we could find just didn't accept their card. My one friend actually had her card rejected because the bank shut down her visa because there was so much activity they thought it had been stolen.
