Travel Tips
There are currently 10 lines running in Seoul from 5am until 1am everyday of the week. Except on Sundays they finish 1 hour earlier. There are hundreds of subway stations in Seoul and the surrounding suburbs. Each "dong" or street in Korea almost always has a subway station. The ride time between each stop averages between 2-4 minutes. You will know when you've arrived at your stop because there is an English voice that lets you know where you are and what door to exit from. Also every subway station has their name printed in English. The fares range from 1,000 won $1 and up to around 2,500 won $2.50 if you are going really far. Check out this link for Seoul's subway system, it will tell you everything you need to know about timing and operating hours.

Thje first answer gave you all the logisitics you will need to navigate teh system. Here are some other details:

There is one subway line, Line 2 or the GReen Line, which continually circles the city of Seoul. MOst of what you want to see in Seoul can be reached from this line, and it will enver matter which way you travel on it, as long as you have extra time on your hands.
In Seoul, a ticket to ride costs 1,000Won. (about $1USD)
When you arrive at yoru destination, you might be charged an extra 100 Won or so if you crossed into another area of town.

(Did you know that taxis are cheap and plentiful.. I can go across town for $5.00USD)

The best of Korean subway systems are in Seoul and Busan, with easy-to-read maps and most stops translated into English.

Do not depend on hearing yoru stop announced in English. On a crowded train, or a noisy one, you will never be able to hear it. Just count your stops.
