Can I play the original DVDs from Korea in California? |
Travel Info I'm thinking about buying DVDs online that are imported from Korea. Can I play then on my regular DVD player in California??? Travel Tips DVDs are encoded into different regions based on where they are purchased. Look on any DVD case. If it is in America, there will be a small globe icon with a big "1" over it. South Korean DVDs are encoded for region 3. If you buy a bootleg DVD (like off the street in Seoul) they usually aren't region encoded. That means, any DVD player will be able to play it. If it is encoded in a different region, you have two options: 1. Use a multi-region DVD player, or 2. Use a DVD player from region 3. Source(s): Here's an article with map and list of region coding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dvd_region_... Other Travel Tips Dvd is a Dvd they dont know where they from of course! Firstly, yes you are correct, there is a formatting difference in DVDs that are sold overseas and those in the US, but if they are sold on-line, you should not have a problem. Make sure they are legitimate. I live in Seoul and the fake CDs and DVDs are everywhere. No one tries to control them. They are on every corner. Some of them will not work in my American DVD player. But legitimate DVDs are always universal. |
