Have you ever gone to South Korea and why? Was it fun?

Travel Tips
I was in South Korea twice, once in February 2002 and March 2003. Both times for almost 3 weeks.

My Korean is very limited but i did not have problems communicating with people and after a few days i could "sound" some words to help me go around.

Seoul is very clean and I noticed i could go out anytime of the day or night and feel very safe.

I had a great time. Clothing is cheap and so is transportation and food... a whole 3 course meal for less than 7 bucks ;-) Lodging can be expensive but you can still find cheap hotels.

The people is friendly and every time they thought i was lost or had problems they tried to help me, even without me asking for help.

You will have a great time, I certainly had and i would go back any time in a heart beat. Source(s): personal experience
Other Travel Tips
I lived in Korea for five years. Unlike most people you ask, I didn't live in Seoul - most people here in the US who have been to Korea, lived in Korea, or are from Korea usually were in Seoul.

I was a child/teenager when I lived there, but I remember loving most of it. My dad was big on us learning more about the culture, so we visited a lot of places. The shopping was great (still is - my dad still lives there and buys us stuff all the time) and the country is beautiful. It's a dream of mine to take my husband back there to see where I lived.
Seoul is probably the one place i never want to go back to!!! the city is nice and very clean and green but i couldn't stand the people. i found them very rude! walking down sidewalks was like an obstacle course as the people there just ram you down like there wasn't anybody else there. the shop keepers were very unpleasant too, they actaully shoo us away from their stores when we ask for an items price! even the waiters were very unpleasant, like they didn't have the patience to speak to someone who didn't speak korean! overall i'd rate it one of my worst travel destinations!
My experience in South Korea was much earlier than the others that answered your question. I first got to Korea in April 1951. I have no idea what the town was called that was close to us. As we flew in to the field the North Koreans were shooting at our airplane. I was there as an advance party for supplies of POL (petroleum, oils and lubricants) for planes that would be landing there on an emergency basis. One time a Marine aircraft landed that needed repair, a few days later the mechanics were there and fixed the plane. After a few months later, I was send back to Japan. Then later on, our whole unit was transferred to the Airbase outside of Pusan Korea. I never got to Pusan while I was there. I later was with another outfit farther north, below Seoul, In April of 1953 I returned back to the States . Most of the time we were confined to our bases and I never saw much of any cities when I was there. Oh I was in Korea because Mr Truman requested that I visit it for a while.
Just a little of what I did when I was there
