Is there any indian and pakistani comminity in south korea? |
Travel Info I have been offered for postdoc in south korea, i want to know is there any indian and pakistani communities there in south korea or not?any suggestions? Travel Tips Excellent answer by Dawn V. I love the variety of Indian and Pakistani restaurants in Itaewon. A long time friend (15 years and counting) has an excellent restaurant near the Hamilton Hotel but I don't want to advertise on this site so just sample them all and you will find the one that is best and that you like. Others We are living here in Seoul because my husband works for General Motors. (We work through DaeWoo here) G.M. also has a design center in Mumbai/Pune, so we have many Internaitonal Service Personel. (ISP's), from India here as well. There is also a strong Indian and Pakastani presence in the Itaewon area, as you would notice form teh many such restaurants. In fact, in the last year, I have seem many Indian restaurants open throughout Seoul. (A big favorite is "Dal", located in the Art Sonje Center in Insadong or Chakkra in Itaewon) From my limited knowledge, I would say hte biggest hurdle for G.M.'s Indian ISPs has been finding vegetarian foods. At first, they were living near to work, outside of Seoul, near Incheon. But finding Indian food in this area is a challenge. Seoul is really the melting pot of Korea. Outside of the city, I think you would not find thesse communities. In Itaewon, we have easy access to spices/food mixes at the Foreign Food Market. No matter what your movers tell you, pack all of your favorite pantry supplies. I usually stock up when I am abroad. Good Luck! Dawn gave you decent information about Indians. The pakistanis will be found in itaewan too , but up the hill near the mosque. Ask at the tourist info there where it is. Around the mosque you can find Pakistanis and other Muslims |
