What is Gangnam Korea like?? |
Travel Info I'm planning to teach English in Korea next year & so far Gangnam seems like a great location.....any advice?? -Thxs :0 Travel Tips Gangnam is a great place, but more expensive than other parts of Seoul. I also, should warn you that is it is also the most crowded areas in Seoul. Everyone wants to live in Gangnam. It is the upscale rich area in Seoul. Others I used to live and work there (also as an English teacher). It is an upscale part of Seoul. It is really nice. IT has a nice mall (Coex), nice restaurants and bars. Easy access to transportation....buses and subways. It will be a nice place to live and work! In korea there are many cities as you may know. But the point is that there are more westerized cities and minority cities don't. To me Gangnam is the most westernized city in KOrea. There are a lot of English teachers in Korea, and I am sure that they won't have a hard time in Gangnam, because there are many U.S. restaurants and it is a lot similar to western cities. There are a lot of buildings (50 floor) and there are very many apartments there. Most of the koreans who are young, about in the 20s spend there time in Gangnam I guess. The thing is that there are alot of companies and apartments. I bet that you will never regret !! IN the nights, This place is so beautiful. As a matter of fact, There was a program in the TV, which they asked many foreigners, what is beautiful about Korea and 90% voted on the night sceen in Gang nam. Gangnam is a part of seoul. Gang means river in korean and nam means south. THere is a river called hangang and the south part is Gangnam and the north part is GAngbook (book means north) You are going to teach English right?? You should not worry about the students. Gangnam students are the highest educated students in korea. They are really smart but they can be a little rude because they are rich. I am a korean and I recomend you to go to "Chongaycheon" This place is a part of the river, this was a plan by the government which was a very dirty river and changed in to the most cleanest river ever. Night sceens rock!!!! Hope I see you in Korea;) Gangnam is a great place, especially for younger and single folks. I loved it there, there is tons to do nightlife-wise and eating. Seoul is an all-around great city with a lot to do and Gangnam is deifnitely one of the best parts of it. The only drawback is it is very expensive. Some more info no one mentioned: Gangnam is south of the Han River. It has wider avenues for driving and walking because it is a newer part of Seoul.. this means more boutiques, trendy coffee shops/retaurants and fun bars.. however it means a lot LESS Korean culture. Apgujong is probably the most famous street for shopping in Seoul and Butterfinger Pancakes is probably the only place to get a true American breakfast. (buttermilk biscuits, ginger-pecan pancakes and fluffy omelettes, minus those Korean additives like hot dog-like sausages or hot pepper paste) Gangnam, for living, is a bit removed for me.. kind of far if you feel like spending an afternoon in Isadong, Dongdaemun or Namdaemun for shopping.. or spending a cultural day at one of the palaces. Also, the hippest area for clubs/bars is actually Honggik University, (or Hongdae), which is quite a distance from there as well. |
