Travel Info What are some recent movies that just came out of Korea??? Travel Tips These are the most recent Korean movies that are out in Korea right now... Unstoppable Marriage: About a man and a woman who are from different social classes that fall in love but are unable to get married because of their incompatible families. This movies has been doing very well in the Korean box office..number 2 I believe? (Starring Eugene, former S.E.S. member and Ha Suk Jin, among others) My Son: About a man who murdered someone and is serving time in jail. He gets to go visit his son, whom he hasn't seen in several years for one day. (Starring Cha Seung-won, Ryu Deok-hwan, etc.) Boys of Tomorrow: I'm actually not sure exactly what this movie is about but has to do with organized crime/gangsters. (Starring Yu Ah-in, Choi Jae-seong, Kim Byeong-seok, Park Myeong-shin, etc.) Sorrow Even Up in Heaven: This is a remake of an older movie that came out in Korea before. About the lives of a father and his children trying to make a living for themselves. (Starring Kim Yu-na, Park Sun-cheon, Park So-young. etc.) Texture of Skin: About a man who restarts a relationship with one of his ex-girlfriends and soonafter starts to have visions of a woman. (Starring Kim Yoon-tae, Kim Ju-ryeong, etc.) A Shark: Something about how a shark allows peoples' lives to cross paths unexpectedly. (Starring ?) These are the most recent ones that I know of...If you meant ones that you can see now, here are some that aren't too new. 200 Pounds Beauty Highway Star A Good Day to Have an Affair Soo (Water) Strongest Romance/Best Romance Cheaters I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK The Old Garden Mapado 2 Beautiful Sunday Before the Summer Passes Miracle on 1st Street Hope this helped! Others Well I know of one that just won an award at the Cannes Film Festival in France, called "Secret Sunshine" (Milyang in Korean) but there's a lot more. If you go to this website, it has a wealth of information about Korean movies, including recent releases, reviews, news, and discussion boards: http://www.koreanfilm.org Hope that helps~! Did you see "200 pound beauty"? I loved it. Not the heavy hitter that "Secret Sunshine" is, so it won't win any awards, but it is light/funny and sends a message. (fat/unatractive girl cannot get fair treatment but returns after cosmetic surgery and weight loss to rule the world) Korea is very beauty-obsessed, so I thought it was a good one. Secret Sunshine is difficult to watch. I have never been able to watch tht kind of pain happen to someone, even in a movie. Of course, the other must-see is "The Host". It is a horror flick though, so it might not be your genre. I live here right now, so anything that gets that much international attention and is shot in Seoul grabs my attention too. |
