It's impossible to pinpoint just one Korean actress. There are several, each significant for a certain achievement.

Jeon Do Hyun (鞝勲弰順?: She's always been a favorite of Koreans, but with the win for her role in "Secret Sunshine" at the Cannes Festival, she proved herself even further with her exceptional acting skills. She was the first Korean ever to win such an award, and you can imagine how her career will benefit from this win. Basically, she has it made.

Jeon Ji Hyun (鞝勳順?: Not dissing her acting skills, but she seems more popular because of her face, body, and sex appeal. She's been in a few hit movies, most notably "My Sassy Girl" which was a huge success in Korea as well as other countries. (It's being remade in America and will be out this year) She's definitely a key actress in Korea. She's making her debut in Hollywood with a movie version of the Japanese anime "Blood: The Last Vampire."

Kim Yoon Jin (旯€鞙れ): Another Korean actress who has made a name for herself in America. Although Jeon Do Hyun won a pretigious award, Kim Yoon Gin is more well known for her role in "Lost." She's definitely a well established actress in Korea with her breakthrough role in "Shiri" which, at the time, broke box office records and was one of the most successful movies.

Lee Young Ae (鞚挫榿鞎?: Her breakthough role in JSA (Joint Security Area) was the best selling film at the time. She's definitely one of the more established actresses. She's been around for an extremely long time. I would say her popularity has declined a tad bit.

Son Ye Jin (靻愳槇歆?: She gained popularity through several dramas in which she was the lead female role. These dramas distributed in key Asian countries made her one of the actresses in the Hallyu movement. Her movie with Jang Woo Sung, A Moment to Remember was also a big hit.

Lee Na Young (鞚措倶鞓?: She made her debut in 1998 and her popularity has slowly increased. She won for Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Awards.

These are a few, among others. Choi Ji Woo, Ko So Young, Kim Hee Sun, Song Yun Ah, Lee Mi Yeon, Shim Eun Ha (She doesn't really count I guess. She had unprecedented popularity but now she has officially retired from the entertainment business after marrying and moving to France.)
