I need information on Jeju Island??? |
Travel Info Is Oct a good time to go? How is the weather and waves? Anything else you think I might need to know. Thanks Travel Tips Diamond has a lot of info, but I don't think she has ever been there.... Jeju in October is not for swimming. In the high heat of august, the water is just bearable. In October, you will need a wetsuit. Also, most beaches are rocky.. theere is little swimming space. I recommend Jungmun beach in the summer.. it is a 4-color sand. very beautiful. I stayed at the Hyatt because it is the only hotel on theisland with a private beach.. otherwise, be prepared to swim shoulder-to-shoulder with Koreans throughout the summer.. literally! But even here, you need to watch the current/undertow. If you must go in October, it will be more about hiking for you, or going through the caves. (DRESS WARM!!!) and do not miss Halla Park or the seaside women divers who sell their catch on the rocks. I have been therein every season, you can e-mail me if you need more info. Others Cheju (Jeju) Island, also known as the "Island of the Gods," is a popular vacation spot for Koreans and many Japanese. It remains one of the top honeymoon destinations for Korean newlyweds. The island's mixture of volcanic rock, frequent rains, and temperate climate throughout the year , make it very similar to the Hawaiian Islands in the U.S. The island offers visitors a wide range of activities: hiking on Halla-san (South Korea's highest peak), catching sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, viewing majestic waterfalls, riding horses, or just lying around on the sandy beaches. Jeju Island has 13 lodging facilities listed with Life in Korea Transportation Bicycle: Given Jeju's wide expanses, bicycling here is much safer than in most of Korea. Many of the roads have sufficient room to ride along the edge, and some even have special bike lanes- not just a painted line between you and traffic, but a separate road with curbs between you and the drivers. . Boat: The ferry terminals in Jeju City has daily boats to Busan, Yeosu, Mokp'o, Wando, Noktong, and Incheon on the mainland, as well as several boats to Japan (see the Jeju Port section for schedules). Several other smaller ports have boats to the outlying islands of Kapa-do, Mara-do, Piyang-do, and U-do. Bus: The bus terminal in Jeju City has buses to numerous destinations around the island. Most do circuits between here and Seogwip'o or Jungmun Resort on the south coast, stopping at various points of interest along the way. Several Jeju City buses criss-cross the city. The main bus is #100, running between the airport and the port, passing the bus terminal and most major hotels. Major hotels and tourist agencies run 1- and 2-day tours around the island. Car: Several rental car agencies have various models for hire, starting from around W35,000 per half day. Plane: Jeju International Airport has several flights daily via Korean Air and Asiana to Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Jinju, Kunsan, Gwangju, Mokp'o, P'ohang, Ulsan, Yecheon, and Yeosu. Domestic flights have an airport tax of W3,000. It also has international flights to Japan: Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo. International flights have an airport tax of W9,000. Food and Drink: Besides tourism, Cheju's main industries are fishing and agriculture. Fresh fish, squid, octopus, sea cucumber, and various other creatures can be easily bought in markets, restaurants, and even right on the beach. Cheju's tropical weather and high preciptation are perfect for growing pineapples and tangerines. The island is also famouse for its Shitake mushrooms and cactus plants. Honey made from local flowers has a special taste. Destinations: Beaches Hamdeok Beach, Hyeopjae Beach Buddhist Temples Cheonwhang-sa, Yakcheon-sa Cities and Towns Jeju City Historical Areas Jeju Folk Village, Residence of Kim, Cheong-hi, Samseonghyeol, Seongeup Folk Village Landmarks Cheonjaeyeon Waterfall, Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, Daepo Seashore, Dumunpo Seashore, Geumneung Seokbul-won (Stone Garden), Gimnyeong-gul and Manjang-gul (Caves), Hangpadu-ri Fortress, Jeju Culture and Art Center, Jeongbang Waterfall, Sanbang-san Mountain, Sangumburi Crater, Sarabong Peak, Seongsan Ilchubong (Sunrise Peak), Songak-san Peak, Suwol-bong Peak, U-do, Yongdu-am (Dragon Head Rock) Miscellaneous Bunjae Yaesulwon, Coastal Highway, Jungmun Resort Complex, Tap-dong, Yomiji Arboretum Museums Folklore and Natural History Museum, Jeju Education Museum, Jeju Independence Museum, Jeju Teddy Bear Museum National and Provincial Parks Halla-san National Park Parks Bija-rim Forest, Halla Arboretum, Hallim Park, Mok Seok Won, Sinsan Park Shopping Areas Jeju Folk Arts Complex Transportation Hubs Jeju Port World Cup Venues Jeju World Cup Stadium . Yea, I think Diamond pretty much covered that one. jeju island is a very popular tourist attraction in south korea its located just between japan and south korea... about the weather... the weather's fine but most of the time jeju island is in overcast..... so it lacks sunny days and about the waves you cant actually swim on jeju island's beaches because you'll freeze to death that is unless you have a skin as thick as leather.... LOL ....... well atleast that is according to my own experience when i went their last year Jeju is a cool place to visit, there's a lot to see and to do. The weather in early October might still be warm. Are you planning on going for Chusuk (Korean Thanksgiving)? As for the waves I don't think you'll be doing much surfing. You can rent Jet Ski's however. Golf is also an option. The most important thing I can tell about Jeju is be prepared to spend a lot of money. Even modest accommodations can be expensive. If you are on a budget and looking for a beach getaway in October, consider Guam, Saipan, or even Thailand or Philippines. These provide a warmer climate and believe it or not will not be so harsh on your pocket book. |
