What to wear to a first year birthday celebration in Korea? |
Travel Info What to wear to a first year birthday celebration in Korea? Travel Tips A first year Birthday celebration is a big thing in Korea so, as a foreigner, I played it safe and went smart but casual. ( and remembered to get a Korean friend to choose an appropriate gift) It turned out that it was the best choice but I did notice that many Koreans there ( mostly family members) went a bit more casual than casual and wore light summer shirts or blouses with jeans or slacks. As for the rest, there was a mixture of smart/casual, more formal suits and a lot of the traditional Hanbok. Just avoid shorts, low cut fronts, and high (or low!) street fashion. gaudy colours and patterns and stuff with motifs!. Kind of smart but understated would be good. The more subdued Autumn colours are popular! ( Pastels OK if you want to be girly!) Good luck and enjoy the day. Others I would suggest dark brown, maby a chocolate color, you could match that with a shade of orange.I f I were going to these colors,I would have a rustic orange skirt, and a chocolate brown top.You could also accerize. GOOD LUCK! If you already live in Korea, you know they are not fans of bright colors or showing a lot of skin. (no matter the weather) So following this logic, preteend you are going to a semi-formal wedding in the afternoon. Any neutral shade that covers most of you. (meaning, do not bare your shoulders or above the knee please) The ladies will be dressed up. This is a big deal. It supplants the American baby shower while costing you more and requiring facier clothes. Be certain your gift is appropriate as well. (not too much or too little) hanbok a traditional clothes that's what your suppose to wear or something formal because the first year birthday is a big tradition in korea and its something that is taken seriously. If it's a boy, go with royal blue and red. |
