USFemale Visiting Seoul, Korea- seeking advice, help, info. about the culture, etiquette, traditions, customs?

Travel Info
Female US citizen visiting Seoul for first time. Looking for info, about etiqutte, appropriate behavior, customs, how to dress/what to wear, traditions, costs of items, safety, dos and don'ts... will be there for over 3 weeks... I have a translator, learning how to use chopsticks....
I have been researching myself and reading but would appreciate your help!

Travel Tips
when you greet elders, make sure you bow your head and greet them. always give or receive supporting your hand, meaning put your receiving/giving hand out and the other hand under palm side up supporting the hand. the location of the support would usually be by the wrist, closer to the forearm. you do this to elders for respect. respect is very important there, especially to elders. when you drink in front of elders, you turn to the right and drink, never face them and have your alcohol. you pour their drink when it's empty with two hands as i mentioned above and they'll do the same. never let them pour their own drink. what you wear is probably what they wear so don't worry about that. they're very modernized there. you should try to wait for elders to eat first before you pick up your chopsticks and wait till they're done eating before leaving the table. don't worry too much about anything though because they understand you're american. don't get into trouble at the night clubs!!! a lot of knock off look-a-likes there and a lot of things are very cheap in seoul. you'll have a lot of fun shopping there and hope you have a nice vacation!

Seoul is very americanized and most speak english,, it is a big rip off city for GIs and tourists,, out side of seoul the people are mostly wonderful to get to know.. the "won" is korean money and the US dollar is not too good there but you can find some great products from many countries at dirt cheap prices compare to the US.. except for special occasions koreans dress as we do,, there is way too much to go thru,, many people say not to eat fresh veggies or drink the water,,, DO NOT drink the water,, but I have always eaten local food and never had a problem,, I spent 8 years there on three tours and had great time,, course I was south of seoul and took the time to meet people off base and out of the local "villes" which were nothing but whore houses and booze joints.. your translator should be able to show you the sites,, it is really a nice city,, but like all cities it does have its vises and crime!!
i've never been to korea but make sure that the chopsticks you practice on are the metal ones. they rarely use the bamboo/wood kind. metal chopsticks are more difficult to handle as they're heavier and easily slips from your fingers if not held properly.

:-)
I have read some of the other post ...some are just full of it....treat all elders the same as you would treat your own!....if you treat locals with respect they will respect you!...stay away from anti-usa protest....other than that...eat what you want to try...drink what you want...there is nothing wrong with the water.....i have been here for 15 yrears and have never had a problem with either food or water...try and stay away fromt he western theme parts of the city as these are only tourist traps...there are some on english language newspapers for free you can view to better get an idea...bottom line...use your manners....you will do fine!!!!
