Drinking, entertainment, and souvenirs can bring the cost way up in a hurry. If you plan for $250USD per day, you should have a nice time and maybe even leave with some of the money you came with. Others This is really a subjective question only you can answer. First decide how much you want to spend and then figure out where to go. When I was stationed in Korea, I spent a weekend in Seoul, I probably spent close to 2 thousand dollars which included everything you are asking about. And that was 11 years ago. $400 USD and up. You can stay at an average Korean motel (with no English signs or English speakers) for $50 a night in Seoul. The rest would be spent on meals and so on. If you can't speak any Korean, can't read Korean, and aren't going with someone who reads and speaks Korean, you'll have to pay much more. Any kind of English service, such as a hotel or restaurant that uses English, costs more than the equivalent in a big English-speaking city, such as Toronto or maybe even New York. By the way, Seoul's taxi drivers usually don't speak English, either... but the subway system is fantastic and has English signs everywhere. You can stay in a youth hostel, where the owners or clerks often speak some English, for much less than a hotel. I spent 6 days in Seoul during the Autumn festival and it only cost me $90 US. I budgeted $30 per day for meals, but spent much less because I ate local food from mom & pop type restaurants. Shopping costs depend on what you're buying and how much of it you want to buy. Night life costs depend on what you do, where you go, and how blammoed you're planning on getting. You'll save money on transportation by taking the subway or bus whenever you can. The routes are easy to understand and you can get free maps of Seoul at the Tourist Information Center at City Hall. You can also use the internet there for free. If you have any problems getting money from the ATMs go to the Standard Chartered ATM in the Kyobo Building off the Gwanghwamun subway stop. It was the only ATM I could get to accept my Chinese issued visa card. Plus, there is a fabulous bookstore in the basement with all kinds of books about Korea. Expat in China |
