Travel Tips whey they purchase a product, the importer has to pay for the shipping, then the customs and VAT, so that would add about 35% on the original price. Then there are about 2 to 3 chains in the distribution channel. Others Korea like much of Asia collects most of the taxes thru VAT taxes where they charge 20%-35% of any products being imported. Places liek USA collect taxes from income, sales tax etc and have almost no VAT taxes making it cheaper in USA for many imports. This is why people from USA do not buy duty free - the duty free prices are the same as normal store prices, but people from Asia are always buying duty free - because they save the 30%+/- VAT (not only Korea - many other places) |
