How does a tourist go about in Korea? |
Travel Info Is English widely spoken in Korea? Whats the general impression of the Korean society? A response from a Korean is greatly appreciated. Travel Tips in south korea, a fair amount of english is spoken of course but you might do well learning a few simple phrases like thank you and hello.(kamsahamnida and anneong haseyo) i am not korean but i am trying to look at korea from an american point of view. from an american point of view i would have to say Korean society is pretty similiar: be freindly, be respectful(especially to elders), tourists in south korea is not a strange sight so i don't think they will be offended if you do something that doesn't follow their traditions. Array I am not Korean, but am Asian, and have been to South Korea twice. English is not that widely spoken there. It would be best if you join a package tour, with an expert tour guide. I went to several cities (small, compared to Seoul), and there are hardly any tourists. (perhaps because my recent trip was not considered the peak tourist month, which is October, autumn in Korea). Koreans are very hospitable and friendly. In my first trip to Seoul, I came just right after the Seoul Olympics was successfully concluded, and Koreans were in an all-time high. Then I returned just this September 2006. My impression is that the 1989 visit was far more magical for me. (It was autumn then). There are many nice fashion items to buy there too. and the cuisine is great. Every city you will visit has its own local specialty. I have lived here for several years and depending on what you are coming over to do really depends on the language skills of the average Korean. I would suggest the Lonely Planet guide book to Korea and definitely visit Pusan (Busan). Try to pick up a phrase book Koreans appreciate a foreigner trying to speak the language. Actually, If you visit Seoul, some people can speak English. But, maybe Korea is nervous about English question. So, I also suggest you can speake Korean little bit. actually, Seoul is capital of Korea. But if you visit differen place. Many people can't speak English. So, if you can speak Korean, I suggest Seoul Korea and America culture is alike. You do not have to feel nervous. Just, if you spend 2 month, you can be adapted. I hope you spend good time In Korea.
