Travel Info For holidays, I would like to go in North Korea, at Seoul. What do you think about this? What can I visit? Travel Tips Going to South Korea for holidays is a great idea. Not too many tourists go there and the country is amazing. North Korea poses several problems. To start with, if you are an American citizen, it is almost impossible for you to go, unless a) you have contributed to the friendship relationships between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the United States of America or b) you take part in one of the few tours of the DPRK this summer that will be permitting US citizens. You must also ask yourself the question "Should I go?". Indeed it may be a fascinating country to visit, and the fact that it is one of the most solitary countries in the world still functioning (some might debate this) in the 21st century might be an aspect you wish to experience before the country eventually opens up. However do you want to fund the pockets of the government, spend an absolute fortune (for what's on offer), and consciously know that you are feeding the military with more weapons, drugs and luxuries, being shown only what "they" want you to see, never seeing the true side where millions are physically starving and deprived from emergency supplies provided by other nations (the food going to feed the army instead). These are just few of the questions you might want to ask yourself before going to North Korea. Reading into it is a must. All the best for your potential trip. In spite of agreements to link a rail line between the north and south, the line ends at the DMZ on the south side, and there has been no progress from the north. In short, it is very difficult to get to North Korea from South Korea unless you are an official representative of a government. However, I am an American citizen who lives in China, there are several travel agencies here which can arrange travel from China to North Korea. Be warned, though, that you cannot speak with North Koreans, take photographs without approval, vary from your tour guide's itinerary, or even feel unwatched in your hotel room in North Korea. There is no official U.S. representative in North Korea (the Swedish Embassy helps U.S. citizens). I would highly recommend your not going to North Korea. |
