Where can I buy Australia-Korea power adaptors in Seoul? |
Travel Info I have a laptop and mobile phone from Australia (3-pin 250V). And all the power sockets in Seoul are 2 pin 220V ones. Where are shops which sell these items in Seoul? Travel Tips I don't know where to buy these in your specific area, but be careful with so called power adapters. These change the type of pin/plug, but not the voltage. I used a power adapter and ruined a lot of my electronics when I moved overseas. It may not make a big difference in your case, your going down 250 to 220. I talked with the people at Dick Smith Electronics, they sale a product that doesn't just change the shape of the plug, it matches the voltage requirements. So you need to be looking for a voltage converter or in the case of the laptop/mobile phone new cords, not a power adapter. Others Have a look in shops around Itawon, which is the main foreigner hang out area in Seoul You can also look around Yongsan. They'll most likely have what you need. Unless you're paying in Australia for your phone to work here, you might as well forget it. Korean phones use a totally different system than other countries! Yah - forget the phone, it won't work here. Laptops do not need a transformer cause the adaptor is built into the power cord (that block shaped piece in the middle of the cord). All you need to do is buy a small plug adaptor to change to two pin (as you said). You can buy these at any electronics supply place - there are thousands of them in Seoul- the part should cost no more than 1000won (1 $). You will need power transformers for any other appliances you bring and they can also be purchased easily here in Seoul at any electronics store - not the big flashy ones that sell DVD players and rice makers, but the little dingy, no light, no heat street corner electrical supply shop that seems to be on an alleyway in every neighbourhood in Seoul. Transformer should cost no more than the equivalent of $20 US. Hope this helps. been there, done that. |
