Get a US passport while in Korea? |
Travel Info my passport will expire while i'm in korea, and i'm getting married and traveling before then so i won't be able to get a new one. Can i get a US passport issued to me while in South Korea??? Will give best answer Travel Tips Yes, go to the US Embassy in Seoul, fill out the paperwork, supply the pictures and money, and you can get a renewal. You need to go to "US Citizen Services". Last year, I had to renew my US passport in China. A few years ago, my wife had to renew her US passport while in Korea. Before that, I had to renew my US passport in Croatia. The old passport will be photocopied and returned to you (so you can stay in Korea). The forms will go by diplomatic pouch to the US and the new passport will be issued by the US State Department and returned to the Embassy. Others This thing happens all the time. Just go to a US embassy in Korea BEFORE your passport expires (I say *before* b/c it'll show that you're a responsible person who keeps up with things, so they are more likely to move their butts too). As a US citizen, the embassy people usually treat you like a friend, so don't be too nervous. But yes, definitely bring any personal IDs, etc. that you might have, just in case they want to see all that stuff. Good luck, CONGRATS on the marriage, and bon voyage! :-) Yes, you can obtain a new U.S. Passport while in Korea. For the fastest service, you must go directly to the American Embassy to apply. Ensure you take your photos with you. Contact the Embassy for which days they go Passport Service, and also ask about what days they're closed. |
