Questions for people who have visited South Korea ???

Travel Info
My boyfriend and I are planning on visiting south korea for a visit with his cousin who works there as an english teacher and would like have some input from other people who have visited. Like, what are some things we should make sure we do while we are there? Tourist spots? Things to watch out for? General tips and advice from your experience.

Travel Tips
I lived in Seoul for two years, between 2002 and 2004 and I can give you some advice. There are a lot of things to do in Seoul, for example it is great for shopping. There are a lot of traditional markets, very interesting for tourists, but also modern malls are a good insight into Korean culture.
Also good, is the Traditional Korean Folk Village which is a faithful reconstruction of how a traditional ancient Korean village (http://www.koreanfolk.co.kr/folk/english...
There are also some palaces to visit in Seoul, but if you like ancient architecture Kyongju (often spelled Gyongju), a city in the south east of the Korean peninsula, is the best place to go (it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
As for food, if you like chilly and garlic you will love Korean cuisine. Try for example duk galbi (pieces of chicken with vegetables and chilly paste cooked in front of you on an iron plate); if you do not like hot food, you can try mandu (like Chines dumplings), chicken stuffed with rice and ginseng etc.
Seoul itself is very easy to get around; the transportation system is great and cheap and the metro stops all have a number and their names are always written also in Latin characters. It is very hard to get lost. Also, there are very few bad areas and the city does not feel threatening at all. Source(s): www.seoulkoreaasia.com

Other Travel Tips
Visit the old temples, enjoy the local food, go to their markets and eat food from the stalls (they are clean), go shopping it's cheap and you can haggle too), avoid places near the military bases because they usually spike up the prices for the Joe's. Have fun.

go to the korean mall in seoul and visit the east sea of korea.
I love Jeju island, too.
How about one fantastic reason for a travel event while in South Korea?

I strongly recommend you taking the DMZ tour at Panmunjom.

This is an escorted tour to the Demilitarized Zone, that separates South from North Korea.

You will come face to face with North Koreans, who are trained from birth to hate you, and will kill you without hesitation if told to do so.

You will get Goosebumps numerous times while there.

I have taken this tour previously; it's spooky !!

But, it's very informative. If you're lucky on the day you go, you might be able to stand on the North Korean side (inside) of the building which held the Armistice talks. (This is about 12 feet inside North Korea, just past the geographical 38th Parallel.)

You will constantly have North Korean Guards stare at you through the windows, with pure hatred in their eyes.

If the opportunity presents itself, definitely purchase for yourself one of the DMZ Barbwire Plaques. These were issued on the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War. Be sure you get one with a serial number!!

I believe they will become extremely valuable once North Korea implodes upon itself.
