Is it safe to drive the length of Baja? How long will it take from the CA/Baja border to La Paz?

Hello. I have been driving the baja for over 30 years now -- back before there was a road to cabo from la paz. I can tell you, it has changed over the years, but as long as you exercise caution and use your best judgement, you will be fine. For example:
Bring extra gas/water/spare parts with you, never drive at night, never park in an isolated spot by yourself, better yet join up with other campers and drive it together. Never stop for anyone flagging you down for assistance (there is a free road service that will come by and help them eventually (green angels). Stop at all federal road blocks and be as as they are looking for illegal stuff. Learn some basic spanish so you can read the road signs...curva peligrosa might be dangerous if you don't understand and heed it! Tell someone where you are! p.s. It takes a couple of days to drive to la paz. |
