Stratosphere Hotel Good or bad? ( party people or families, good pool etc. )?

Travel Tips
The rooms are fine; the problem is the hotel is bordered by a crummy neighborhood on the north and west, and it isn't really near any other properties. (The next nearest hotel is Sahara, 1/2 mile south of the Strat.) You probably wouldn't feel safe exiting the hotel on foot to walk around at night, and right now it's too hot for that sort of behavior during the day; so unless you're driving into town, you'll be spending whatever you save on the room on cabs or a rental car.

The yucky neighborhood does bring some undesirables into the casino, but casino security is pretty good at keeping that sort of thing under control. The hotel isn't extremely popular with families as far as actually staying there (compared to Circus Circus, Excalibur, Luxor), but Strat does attract a huge family crowd during the day because of their thrill rides and observation deck.Their pool is big, but not particularly scenic.

Here's the official hotel website so you can learn more about what they have as far as entertainment, restaurants etc:

You might be happier at one of these other "bargain" Strip properties instead:

I recommend reading the hotel reviews offered on this website for more info. They do not sell anything, so they give fair unbiased (and often funny) reviews of hotels:

And finally, here's a good map of the Strip for you. For perspective, it's about 5 miles from Mandalay Bay to Stratosphere. (FYI, Aladdin is now Planet Hollywood, Stardust is now only dust, and Barbary Coast has been renamed Bill's Gambling Hall, but the rest is accurate.)

Other Travel Tips
I think it's kinda of old and trashy. Compared to the other hotels on the strip who've tried to keep up with the changing times, the Stratoshpere is way dumpier...if that's a word. Their rooms smell slightly like cigaretttes and their beds arn't that comfortable. The service (like customer service) isn't that great etiher. But the ride on the top is awesome!

Try the MGM hotel, or Ceaser's Palace! Las Vegas.com has a lot of great hotel deals, you can stay at one of the nicer hotels for the same price as the Stratosphere.
Stay somewhere else and visit the hotel
Just OK-there are worse hotels on the strip.
It is not near the main part of the strip but the rooms are a little cheaper. The rooms are ok but with so many other better casinos to select from I would probably stay somewhere else as the area surrounding the Stratosphere is a little run down
They do have a ride at the top of the casino
opening poster is wrong. Stratosphere is newer than both Caesars and Mgm (30 years in Caesars case). Second YOU WONT get a place like Caesars or Mgm or Mirage or Paris at the same price as Stratosphere as for those places you will pay 4 or 5 times the average price of a room at the Strat ($40-60 a night)

the bad point about stratosphere is its location and that is a big downer, it is nowhere near the other strip hotels (the two closest being Sahara half a mile away and Circus circus 1 mile away approx).

stratosphere is not a place to go for partying but it is good for those on a budget and the rides at the top of the tower are amazing. Other hotels at the same price are circus circus, sahara, riveria, tropicana, gold coast, orleans. Based on quality i would go for orleans but based on location tropicana wins it.
i like the strat, i have stayed their a number of times the rooms are just like any other hotel room the pool area is nice. not as many kids in the hotel like at like the circus. the tower restaurant is pretty cool and the food was good, the price was excellent. and i was always comped my meals the rides. i stoped staying there when they took out single deck blackjack and replaced it with super fun 21 as far as it not being in a prime location i never found it to be a problem, take a walk, a bus, a cab.
