Best time of the day to drive to Vegas from Southern California? |
Travel Info Some friends and I are going to be driving to vegas (from Las Angeles) the friday before the 4th of july and i was wondering if anybody had any information or past experences of what the traffic is like. the earliest we can leave is 12:30 in the afternoon. Travel Tips Trust me ... Friday is HELL especially close to a major holiday ... Best time to leave is 8 am! If you have to leave at 12 30 just be sure you HIT the road at 12 30 and take 210 freeway East to 215 / 15 Fwy towards Barstow and you'd be fine ... Letting you know that 10 fwy is pure hell from Los Angeles to 15 fwy ... Others If you can't leave until 12:30, then I would make sure you are on the road at 12:30. At 12:30 you might get lucky and be fine, but traffic to Vegas starts to get thick by then on a Friday. Your problem is you are at least an hour away from the thickest part of traffic, the section of the 15 from the 60 all the way to Victorville. Try to leave earlier if you can, otherwise there is no "best" time until after midnight. 12:30 in the afternoon from Los Angeles? Good Luck! You'll be sitting in traffic in LA longer than it will take you to make the drive to Vegas. I'd leave at night, 9:30ish. I have done the drive countless times and by 12:30, you are already pretty much screwed. Last friday for example, by noon the 15 was already backed up going up the Cajon Pass. If you have to leave at 12:30, make haste to get on the road as it will only get worse as the afternoon goes on. The other option is to wait until after 9PM when it gets better. This is one of the reasons why I now go up on Saturday. If not only miss much of the weekend traffic, you also onlyget stuck paying for 1 weekend night. The only downside is some places don't allow saturday arrivals but I have never had a problem finding a decent place to stay in spite of it. Good luck and have a great trip. Leave by 6pm. The heat is horrible once you pass over the San Bernardino Mountains into the high dessert. High in Las Vegas is 109. I'm in Laughlin right now! the earlier the better |
