Luxor Hotel? |
Travel Info I just booked my stay at THe Luxor in Las Vegas for my honeymoon. Does anyone have any comments on this hotel? Good and bad comments are welcome. Also I wonder if they will give me a free upgrade since it's my honeymoon? Travel Tips This is from my experience: I've stayed at NewYorkNewYork, Monte Carlo, Luxor, MGM Grand, Excalibur, and Bellagio - and I think, other than Bellagio, Luxor has the nicest room with the best pool (largest too) and a good spa. The casino is complete with all the games and even has a decent poker room. You can usually ask for an upgrade to a Tower Suite (if you get a nice person at the desk) if you simply ask - it has a substantially larger bathroom and is a little quieter since its a little further from the slot machines. Luxor is by fat the best hotel per dollar I've stayed at. The buffet is very reasonably priced, with good food and a few good lounges and live music venues. Mandalay Bay is connected to Luxor so you have access to higher end gaming and very exclusive restaurants (MIX, Fluer de Lys - which will be very nice to eat at for a HoneyMoon - but will cost near $150 or more for the two of you). The service at Luxor is very good too - prompt room service, helpful front desk, and the hotel itself (bathrooms, beds, hallways) is very orderly and clean. Overall the feel and vibe of the hotel is fun and clean - and if you're up for it, you can even treat yourself and your new wife to spa treatments which include facials and massages. Hope this helps - cant wait till my next trip to vegas. Others I stayed at the Luxor two summers ago. The location isn't my favorite of all the LV hotels, just b/c it's so far south on the strip. There are a few pools, but most of the time we were there, they weren't all open all the time. The restaurants are fine and the rooms are nice - clean, but not super fancy. If I had it to do over, I'd stay in the middle of the Strip at the Bellagio or Paris, etc. They might do a free upgrade b/c of your honeymoon, especially if you give the hotel check-in clerk a tip. Good luck and congrats on your wedding! The hotel itself is pretty good (as far as rooms and such are concerned). However, I do find the luxor is limited, or a bit dull, with the activities that are offered. Not that this will matter much, you will be on the strip and can just walk to another hotel or location for daytime acitivities. I've never been there, but from what I hear it is marvelous. Plus, Criss Angel's Mindfreak show is there. So make sure to check that out. :P And maybe post some video of it on YouTube when you come back. Enjoy your honeymoon. :) http://www.vegaspopular.com/2006/11/14/m... Congrats on the upcoming wedding! The Luxor is actually a great mid-priced hotel. The rooms in the pyramid are nice and the ones in the tower are even nicer. Since it is your first stay, I would go with the pyramid rooms to get the whole "Luxor Experience." The windows are angled and the elevators are called "Incinators" since they move sideways which produces a very odd feeling. Something you need to experience at least once. I have some room pics on my site at... http://www.lvcasinoinfo.com/hotelrm_pics... Luxor also has a good collection of restaurants from gourmet to fast food. I especially recommend the Steakhouse. The casino is pretty fun and the pool area is huge. It is connected to both Mandalay Bay and Excalibur which greatly increases the number of restaurants and things to do without ever going outside. I would definitely try mentioning that it is your honeymoon when checking in. Also try slipping the clerk a $20 with your ID and CC while mentioning your honeymoon. This trick often works wonders. There is even a site dedicated to the practice at... http://www.twentydollartrick.com... Good luck and have a great time on your honeymoon! I took my mom for her 50th birthday and we loved it! It was clean and the security was top-notch. Here's a hint: If you call the hotel and ask for the name of the front desk manager and their fax number, they'll give it to you. Write the front desk manager a note telling them it's your honeymoon (bonus points if it's anyone's 1st time in Vegas) and if there's ANYTHING they can do to make the visit even more special <wink wink> you'd REALLY appreciate it. We got a jacuzzi suite over a holiday weekend for the midweek regular room rate by doing that. (At the very least, you'd get show tickets or something....) |
