Suggestions for an area of Nevada to move? |
Travel Info I want a good place to raise kids, good schools, neighborhoods, etc. Not good as in "wealthy" but good as in "family-friendly". I would like something near a decent size city because I sell insurance and need some population to do that, but do not necessarily want to have a home in a big city. How hot does it get in the summer, and cold in the winter? I would like some snow, its been quite a while since I have seen any down here in Southern Louisiana.........any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Travel Tips I have a place in Vegas and have been going there since the 60's. I would say, based on your requirements that Vegas would be the place for you. Some of the fastest growing communities in the country...Henderson and North Las Vegas. I would suggest Henderson to you as it is family friendly and has a much better school system. That should be important to you! I particularly like the Green valley section of Henderson, and it has the very best schools. It would give you access to a great market of potential clients as well. It won't feel like a big city but is is that, only spread out. A large population base for your business indeed and Insurance is quite necessary. Lots of new home developments and resells. They need car, home and life insurance. Oh they drive like maniacs there and they run red lights for a hobby so emphasis on car and life insurance please! LOL Hope this helps you. Las Vegas is far more than the strip and casinos. No personal income taxes, good deal there. When you live there, and I have, we tend to try and stay away from the strip and we have routes around the strip. The strip separates what we call the East side and the West side of town. North Las Vegas is the more affordable area and it is growing leaps and bounds. The West side is best and there are still some bargains to be found in home purchasing. It is not the best area to live in but it is least expensive and that is not cheap any more. The Summerlin area is very nice as well but I feel very overpriced and hard to get to and from. Endless construction on Rt. 95 has traffic backed up in both directions, not that the traffic is not bad enough in Vegas to begin with. Getting worse and worse as the influx of people to Vegas is astounding. My friend runs the DMV there and told me that there are thousands of new registrations each month. Number one state people are moving from? California then Texas, then New York. No statistics on people moving out of Vegas. One of the drawbacks that we experience there is a lack of good Doctors. The Malpractice Insurance rates went through the roof and a tremendous amount of Doctors have moved out of state as a result. I one time asked the Mayor "where do you go for medical treatments?" and he replied "Southern California!" He is not kidding he has and does go there! I have a house in Southern California on the beach and I can tell you that we spend a lot of time here in the summer particularly and then again for a milder winter. We will keep the place in Vegas though as a getaway spot. As far as the weather is concerned, yes it can snow there in the winter. The snow does not generally last long but it is snow indeed. Ice as well and the winter temperatures are cold, below freezing at night, 40's and sometimes 50's during the day. The other problem is the wind there and it feels sometimes like it is bone chilling due to the dry conditions. The summer, well just got back the other night and we had 109 degrees and the promises of even warmer before the week was out. I have been there when it has been 120 degrees and it almost hurt to breath. People tell you"everything is air conditioned" but try telling that to someone trying to get into their car when it has sat in that heat all day. I have a branding from the seatbelt of my Jag! Hot is not the word then we have the wind.....again! I have described it like a convection oven! You will keep hearing "but there is no humidity". Well there is no humidity in a nuclear bomb either doesn't mean it isn't hot. LOL However, taking all that into consideration, if you are going to move to Nevada, that is the place. Opportunities galore, good job market and you can make money on property there if you buy smart. At any rate, hope your move to the Silver State is a smooth one and there are some great Louisiana restaurants there and even Emiril! BAM...great gumbo and jumbolaya though! That should make you feel at home, lots of Creole and Cajun spots galore! Good luck to you and yours. Source(s): 34 years in the Travel Business and I have a place in Vegas. Sorry this was so long but I wanted to share with you and a move is an important decision and you need to know all the facts and get all sorts of people's opinions. Other Travel Tips Move to Area 51 and let me know if the aliens are doing OK there. Tahoe (Neveda side). Carson City, Boulder, North Las Vegas, Pahrump. Check out real estate in these areas and see if the schools match what you want for your kids. good luck. depends on what town you moving into,if its Vegas,I would suggest Summerlin Dont move to Pahrump! In Pahrump prostitution is legal there. it gets over 120 in the summer , about 60 in the winter, no snow will strick to the ground. vegas is the largest growing city in the u,s. |
