Weird Questions about Lebanon? |
Travel Info I was wondering if somebody would answer some questions about Lebanon for me. I really do not mean to seem ignorant, but I make myself so worried about the dumbest things. 1. Can anybody tell me what kind of power outlets you have? Like the voltages or what it looks like or something? I think I need to buy an adaptor so I can take my laptop over there this summer. 2. This question is really stupid and I apologize. I am in Microbiology for school right now, and my teacher is really freaking me out talking about stuff that lives in different countries. She told us this long story about hookworms that live in the Carribean beaches and will burrow into your feet and slither all around under your skin. Is there anything at all like that over there on the beaches? That would scare the living daylights out of me. 3. My boyfriend is in Saida, and he says the power goes out all the time. I don't understand that. Do they really just randomly turn the power off?? Thank you anybody. :) Travel Tips Before I go to sleep let me answer you. 1- The voltage is 220V with a frequency of 50Hz. My HP adapter says it supports a variable input voltage from 100V to 220V with a frequency range of 50 - 60Hz. As for the socket outlets, its mostly Round pin attachment plug. You can check how it looks like here http://kropla.com/!c.htm 2- I have never heard of hoorworms. I live by the beach & in summer I swim at least twice a week & the worst thing that can happen to you here is Jellyfish stings. The Jellyfish starts appearing in July. 3- Yes. the power goes off. Usually its not random. This is shameful after all the money that was spent in the power sector in particular. I wonder where the money went! Usually a red blooded Lebanese knows how to deal with this. The majority of people have electricity subscriptions to supply themselves with electricity the power is off. Hope this helps, Smut Face Others Well, no problem. 1. 220 W. I don't know if in Saida, they all have 220 W too. But wait, we have electronics shops here, in case u still don't know what to buy... 2. No, we don't have taht hookworms (i think they have it in egypt...) Although you can't go to the beach, because after the war last july, all of the Lebanese shores has been polluted and it needs about three to four years to get it cleaned. Plus, u can't eat fish that come from the Lebanese shore, don't mean to scare u but u would die.... Pollution.. All the lebanese restaurants that have fishes bring it from turkey or something. Noone brings fish from lebanese fishers. so don't go buy it from those people who sell some on the street.... Or just ask more about this... ask someone with more knowledge.. 3. yes, the power doesn't go off randomly. they bring it for about 6 to 12 hours a day. But that was after the war, now here in Beirut, we don't have that problem anymore.... You're welcomed these aren't weird questions, we recently came to live in Lebanon and had similar questions and more. I think they were answered right and if you need more information, just ask. Yes my dear, these are typical symptoms of a Third World Country.:-)) 1. Power outlet is 220 Volts...I think you need an adaptor to plug your laptop in the wall cuz we have the round type in our walls and in US you have them flat...but you can find an adaptor here in Lebanon at any supermarket or electric shop 2. nothing like that here in Lebanon, but never drink Tab water, buy bottle of water from the shops...wash your veggies and fruits very well before eating them and avoid uncooked meat no matter what people tell you. 3. the power goes off not quite randomly but there are back-up generators so don't worry much about that. i tottaly agree with smutty :D gh |
