What do americans know about liverpool? |
Travel Info What do americans know about liverpool? Travel Tips What young Americans know about Liverpool is impossible to say - but well-read Americans, over 50, may know the following. Home city of the Beatles, of course - head office of Cunard and White Star shipping lines - (yes - hence the name on "Titanic" !) Liverpool used to be one of the biggest seaports on earth, with massive trade via every US port - especially New York - right up until the 1950s...! Population extremely cosmopolitan - home of Britain's first skyscraper - Britain's second underground rail system - Europe's first (only) elevated railway - world's first tram (streetcar) - a unique city, noted for enthusiastic mayhem, boisterous wit, football madness and musical talent. And all over Britain, until the 1930s - (so very, very few alive will still know this) - people from Liverpool were often nicknamed "Dicky Sams" - (which meant - "Little Americans...!") - though not always as a compliment. Source(s): The library of life. Other Travel Tips I heard that is where the Beatles originated from. Not much, I'm afraid, other than the fact that the Beatles got their start there, if memory serves. im american and frankly, i have no idea what ur talking bout lol Beatles, Oasis, and an underrated art museum In on the Mersey River |
