Iam looking to find a new flat but am in receipt of DSS Benefits does anyone know where i can find info? |
Travel Info on which landlords, agencies will accept Houing Benefit.I have just checked ads in the Liverpool Echo but they all said no DSS.I'am looking to move to the Merseyside area, thanks!. Travel Tips Red Rock Property Services 400a Prescot Rd Liverpool, L13 3DA 0151 220 4802 They usually have a few flats for rent, and they take DSS. Others try collingwood housing there head office is in manchester Sometimes landlords will consider DSS, I think they want to check you out first actually. Get a list of landlords/letting agencies in liverpool area & ring round asking if they have any properties they are willing to let to DSS recipient. Explain that you can have the rent paid direct to them if this is a problem. Good luck with your move (I used to stay off lodge lane & loved it) Well its not easy, i used to be on the Doll and it was very hard to find a flat. Im not sure about Liverpool but in London you can go to the local council and they will have a list of landlords and/or agencies that will except DSS. You might want to also enquire about what rights you have in regards to getting a grant or a interest free loan from either the council or benifits agency to help you with paying the deposit for the flat, they should also give help out with buying furniture, fridge, washing machine etc.. so dont be shy to ask.... i wish you all the best.... In the London authority I work in, we advise claimants that they don't actually have to disclose that they are 'DSS' as so many agencies and landlords are reluctant to rent, in many cases with undue prejudice. They can request that the council doesn't communicate with the landlord, and due to Data Protection Act, the council will not disclose to the landlord that you are claiming housing benefit. They can usually put a note on the claim that you have specifically asked that the landlord is not given ANY information. As long as you 'keep on top' of your claim, the benefit should be paid straight to you regularly, and you can pay your landlord. They will never know. If for some reason they do find out, as long as you've been paying regularly and on time, they should be reasonable and allow you to stay. My council will not assist with deposit/first month rent in advance, and so you'll need an agency/charity/friend/family member to lend you this till the benefit is processed, as it won't be the best start to your tenancy to pay this late! Good luck with finding a place! Liverpool is great! i know one of my friends lived in st. helens in merseyside and she got a house that the dss paid for |
