Is it possible to fill a prescription from an american Dr. in the UK?

Travel Info
I may stay longer than I originally intended and I should not discontinue abruptly.

Travel Tips
Yes, a prescription from any doctor is good in any country. For instance I got a prescription in Mexico and had it filled in the US. I also had a US prescription filled in Japan. If you medication is something that cannot be abused, for instance if it's not a painkiller then you should be able to fill it without question in the UK. Don't fill it in the US then mail it, just fill it at any pharmacy in the UK. I would do so early, just in case there are ANY complications.
Others
Have it filled in the US & then have a family member pick it up & mail it to you

Medications such as anti-depressants should not be stopped abruptly.. so plan ahead of time
You will not be able to fill it as an NHS prescription - you will have to fill it as a private prescription at a pharmacy that offers this service and recognises the prescription. It will also have to be for a drug that is licensed in the UK.

You will have to pay the full cost of the drug plus a dispensing charge.

You could also visit a doctor and get it re-issued. This should not be a problem and should not be expensive.

Do not have it filled overseas and mailed - it is very likely to get stopped in customs.
