For those who live in London, how can you afford it?

Travel Info
I'm from Italy and lived in london for almost one year.No need to say how much I like it and how sad I was when I had to go back to my country. But honestly speaking, how can you afford to live in such an expensive place?I had a simple job and didn't get payed a lot but everything was really high priced.

Travel Tips
er Q to "budding arthour"..I have never seen a decent flat share room for 拢60 a week inc!! More like 100 per plus bills and that was ex council on a crappy estates. Anyway...
I now live in Walthamstow (After having been priced out of my home town of 22 years and i am 25 years old) and I now pay for a one bed for 拢170 per week..now I share with someone else but My rent and utilities and food etc etc STILL comes to 拢550 Per Month..and that does not include clothing or mobile phone or anything else..
If I don't have enough to pay then I have to forgo the shopping bill or perscription charges. If I break my glasses I have no way to pay for more and can't afford health insurence.
So to answer the original Q ..I can't afford it lol but it would be the same if I moved out of London...lower rent but also lower wages....
I now can't afford to move anyway so will have to wait till I can save...
Most people I think have the appearence that they can go out or spend a lot but most people can't say they are poor.
It is still a dirtty word and most don't believe you anyway.
Those who can't afford it do what others have said on here which is flat share with 5 other people..and somehow get on with it...I don't know how people go out on 拢50 every weekend..none of my friends can??!!!! and the only people I know who can are paid well or live at home..or are much older..or have rich parents LOL or live off lettuce and save up the callories and money to mass binge lol
Nuff said lol

Its not easy if you do not have a good job. Those on a low wage tend to share a flat
You need a really good job otherwise it is hell. I sympathise with people who have to share accommodation just so its easier to pay the rent.

All those people who come here from poorer countries expecting to have a good life and make lots of money are fooling themselves. The price of living, tax etc. eats into any money they earn. Even people who are born here want to leave cos its so damn expensive.!
very hard.
england has huge income discrepancies -- the biggest in europe. many people in london afford it by collecting exorbitant rent money off of people like you -- or underpaying you so they can pocket extra cash to pay their exorbitant rent. the rich get richer and the poor have to scrape by.
Many Cannot.

One needs a high level of income or disposable cash.

The long term benefits are obvious buy I feel sad for service workers who earn low wages.
I have worked in London, on and off for a few years , all contract work, usually 6 months to year at a time.
My money was fantastic, it had to be or there is no way I would ever go near the place.
My last job was in Harrow, I was on about 拢250 a day 5 days a week, 37.5 hours a week.
Some of the fellers I worked with rented flats in the Harrow area for 拢1000.a month!!!Plus all other bills.
I had a room in a house (share the kitchen bathroom etc ) 20 minutes tube ride away from my office. It cost me 拢60 a week all bills included.
Now assuming you only get in the region of 拢7 per hour and only work 40 hours per week that gives you 拢280 week less the usual deductions !
Say 60 -70 quid for a room , cant you manage on the balance???
Yes it is true I am a tight fisted Jock but I have seen all I want to see of London, I met far friendlier Chinese folk sharing the house was in than the Londeners in the local pubs in Harrow.
