Parking fine in London - is it worth appealing? |
Travel Info Little Russell Street in London, one way street, you go past the pay machine, then a sign saying "pay at meter". You then park in the next bay. Walk back to meter, pay the 拢9.60 for two hours, come back 1.5 hours later to find a penalty notice stuck to your windscreen. (In fact I didn't notice it until after we'd left the area). Apparently I was in a residents' parking zone. The only clues would have been to walk AWAY from the meter to find the sign saying this (if indeed there was one), and a short gap between two parking spaces (which apparently magically denote the diffference between two parking zone types). Is it even worth appealing? What are my chances of getting an appeal turned around in 14 days (after which the fine doubles to 拢100)? A genuine - and costly - mistake, not helped by the traffic furniture configuration. Travel Tips Take photographic evidence to support your claim if you can and request any guidelines for visibility of signs. When this happened to a friend on a different matter they suspended the fine while it was investigated. Check this is still the case by phoning or e-mailing and request your complaint is acknowledged by e-mail or letter well within the 14 days. Good luck. My friend's fine was for 'driving' in a bus lane and she asked them to review the tape to prove that she had momentarily pulled in and then pulled out when she realised. I'm not sure what the success rate is with parking fines. Others you wont get anything and they probably wont even take time to read it, its worth a try though what have you got to lose? You will prob just get a letter saying sorry there is nothing they can do - if anything. I have disputed an identical ticket today!!! If you do post a dispute and lose they will normally still only fine you the lower amount. |
