We might be traveling to England early 2008. What do I need to do to get ready?

Travel Tips
-get your passport, and get it months in advance, in some places it takes forever!
-buy a camera, and if its digital buy lots of memory cards because you will be taking tons of pictures!
-buy a travel guide or book from your local bookstore and read it and share it with the people you are traveling with. everyone will get excited after reading of what's to come.
-pack only what you know you are going to need/wear. nothing is worse than lost luggage in a different country. plus, you'll need room for all of the things you will buy there! you could also create a packing checklist, so you don't forget anything important. http://gofrance.about.com/cs/travelplann...
-prepare yourself for the exchange rate. england is very expensive once you compare it to american rates.
-look up some of the english slang words so you're not too confused with some of the dialect.
-look up restaurants and pubs that you and your travel mates might be interested in.
-perhaps plan an itinerary so you can make the best use of your time there.
-get ready for the best vacation ever, england is amazing!

practice saying pip pip cheerio and buy a nice umbrella...lol
Passport, keep handy the address of where you are staying so that you can fill out the visa waiver form on the plane and that's about it although make sure you save because it can be expensive.
As a Brit, try get to see York, Brighton and the West Country, beats the hell out of London and Bath
Save up. Especially if you plan on going to London. It's the most expensive city I've ever been to. Hopefully the exchange rate will be a little better by 2008, but don't count on it.

When you say early I think you mean winter. If you are going in the winter you really need a lot of warm clothes. I spent some time in the mid north in November and found the wind just went right through me even though I had a winter padded jacket on. Gumboots might be a good idea, a rain coat and an umbrella.
It might be a good idea to do some research on the value of the British pound and what it can buy you comparied to your own currency.
Well, you def need your passport. Take that and your birth certificate with you, along with your drivers license. If you plan on using your credit or debit card there they may ask for ID.

When you pack plan on leaving room for stuff that you buy. Bring comfortable shoes that you know you will be able to walk around in for hours. I would imagine it's going to be cold, snowy, rainy maybe...pack for a cold trip.

They say that you should use a money belt but I didn't have a problem with pick pockets. Though being from NY I carry my purse tight.

Oh, and get ready to have one of the best times of your life and meet some great people!!
