Places to stay near Stonehenge?

Travel Info
My friends and I had an idea at the weekend to go and stay near Stonehenge to visit the stone circle and also have a very nice countryfied trip in general.

I wondered:

a) what places are there near stonehenge where we could stay?
b) anyone know any decent places to look to book a nice cottage in the area? I'm getting baffled and don't know which is a good site.

thanks

Travel Tips
Salisbury is your best option - its nearest and has the best connections to Stonehenge

If you've got your own transport other nearby towns are good too - Devizes, Marlborough or smaller villages such as Mere, Wilton etc.

It may be worth visiting other ancient sites nearby such as the West Kennet Longbarrow, Avebury Stone Circle or Silbury Hill

As for mountain biking there are lots of trails etc over the downs - do a general internet search for mountain bike trails in wiltshire.

There is guide thats available called something like off road cycling in Wiltshire but I think its only available in paper form - see http://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/brochure...

See http://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/index.as... for details of the area and accommodation Source(s): I come from Wiltshire

The Quality Hotel Andover ( http://www.resideo.com/gb/andover/130071... ) is only 9 miles from Stonehenge -- that's probably your best bet.

Check the link for more info, pics & online booking.

Good luck, and have fun!
I went about 10 years ago for a weekend and stayed in Salisbury. It seemed a pleasant enough town for a weekend. I stayed in b&b. Although I can't remember the name of it, I found it using Smooth Hound Systems http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/ and it was a good b&b. I don't know any mountain bike ranges unfortunately but find the tourist information board for the town and ask them.
The nearest you will find accommodation to Stonehenge is the town of Amesbury, which is just 3 miles away. It has a good, informative web-site and it's tourist information office can be contacted on 01980 623255 or 622833, between 0930hours and 1700hours. If, however, you are specifically seeking a cottage just type in "holiday cottages", where you will find plentuy of web-sites. Good luck.
Salisbury, very nice town a lot to see there also cathedral.
You will pay not to much when you stay in a bed& breakfast a very good one is Blue Haze you might find it under B+B England Salisbury.
A good connection to Stonehenge.
Have a nice stay!
Was there several times!
