I'm going to England this July, please give me several tips?

Travel Info
I will be staying in Stilton, Cambridgeshire from Friday 20th July until Tuesday 24th July. I'm really desperate to go to London after years of waiting, but I only have ONE day to spend my time there, for my friends in Stilton have organised ''activities'' to do there... But I need your help!

- How do I get to London from there? I want to spend my whole day (and wallet) in Oxford Street and the surrounding area only!
- OK, I'm not going to be stuck there all day long, I also want to visit the British Museum. Is this even possible? I want to see the main things only.
- How much money do I have to bring with me?
- If London is not a good idea, will Cambridge also do?

Thanks for your help!

Travel Tips
It is not hard to get to London from Stilton, I live near by in Huntington. Just get to Peterborough and take the fast train into London. Then get on one of the sightseeing buses which take you past all the major places. Just jump on and off at the places you want a better look at, and you can avoid the underground this way.
The bus does not cost too much, and the British Museum is free (at least it was last time I went) but I would still suggest taking around 拢100 with you, even if you do not spend it all.
Do not bother with Cambridge, London is far more interesting.

You know....I went to England several years ago...and the place that stood out to me the most...was Stonehenge. Out of all the most beautiful places and stunning architecture and historic buildings...I like Stonehenge the best! Go figure.
The British Museum is closed on Mondays for staff training.
Here's a big tip. TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!! Just kidding , but I wish I were going too. Have a good time.
Londons pretty expensive but its a great day out and travel is very easy!
The tower is a good place to see and tower bridge is a great place for a photo!
Buy a one day travel card and you can go all over all day for about 拢5
Enjoy your stay!
bring a tank..lol have a nice time.
DON'T go to Oxford Street!! London's stunning, and there's so many beautiful places in London with interesting and varied shops, please don't waste it in Oxford Street - you'll be dissapointed I promise you.

Go to Piccadilly Circus which is fairly nearby, and fairly close to the British Museum as well. You can go the Troccadero which is a collection of shops, amusement games, bowling, restaurants and cinema - and it's all enclosed. Or go to Leicester Square which has a nice park in the middle of it and shops and restaurants near by as well as theatres. Again, this is close to the British Museum.

Get an Oyster Card and put about 拢6 on it and you can travel the tube in central London (Zones 1 & 2) - but you can walk from place to place because there are lots of street maps on the pavements.

You get a train from Cambridgeshire to London.

I don't know how much money you should bring - if you want a slap up meal there's loads of cheap places for around 拢6 or 拢6 (e.g. Mr Wu's in Chinatown, or McDonalds!!) but London can also be quite pricey as well. I'd say bring a minimum of 拢30 but try to bring around 拢80.

Hope that helps.
