Do new yorkers have british accents? |
Travel Info Do new yorkers have british accents? Travel Tips There are several different accents in the state of New York, and none of them are "British". The accents found in the Hudson Valley are quite different from the ones in New York City. Years ago, many upper class individuals spoke with a "Mid-Atlantic" accent. To many people, it could often sound half-American and half-British RP in nature. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was from the Hudson Valley, spoke with a variation of this accent. There are several different variations; one is called "Locust Valley Lockjaw" and another is called "Boston Brahmin". However, as the name would imply, the Brahmin accent was more common with upper class families from Boston, Massachusetts. Others No way, haha That's a very interesting question.
